Retired Fremantle Hospital Medical Consultant Dr Dan O’Donnell has been honoured at this year’s WA Health Excellence Awards, as a joint recipient of the prestigious Minister for Health’s Award.

The Minister’s Award recognises an individual who demonstrates a commitment to helping achieve healthier, longer and better quality lives for all Western Australians.

Dr O’Donnell, who retired earlier this year after 30 years’ service as a Consultant in General Medicine, made tertiary health care accessible to rural and remote communities as well as to socioeconomically disadvantaged patients from the south metropolitan corridor.

In nominating him for the award, his colleagues cited his professional integrity and his trustworthiness, along with his kindness and care for his patients and those he worked with.

Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group Acting Executive Director Janet Zagari said Dr O’Donnell had made a lasting impact on his patients and peers during his distinguished career.

“Dr O’Donnell was a much-loved staff member whose kindness and clinical expertise are greatly missed,” Janet said.

“I congratulate him on this well-deserved honour.”
