Geriatric Perioperative Service
We look after older patients, aiming to optimise their medical health before and after surgery. We provide a range of pre- and post-operative services from pre-operative assessments to rehabilitation.
We provide support for most surgical specialties, including orthopaedics, vascular surgery, upper and lower gastrointestinal surgery, urology, and cardiothoracic surgery.

Information for patients
Your first clinic assessment will take up to two hours, with follow-up appointments lasting approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
It will involve an assessment by a clinic nurse, who will take your medical history, perform a cognitive test, height and weight measurement, blood pressure measurements, and a bladder scan.
You will then see a specialist for a comprehensive assessment involving a detailed history and physical examination. During this assessment, we may recommend changes to medication, suggest further treatments or request further investigations prior to surgery. Follow-up reviews may be in the form of a return appointment to our clinic, or by the general practitioner.
Please bring details of any medications you are taking (including prescriptions and over-the-counter health supplements) to your clinic appointment.
