Hand Service

About us

The Hand Service at Fremantle Hospital offers a hand trauma and an elective hand surgery service. It is staffed by orthopaedic and plastic surgeons, nursing staff, occupational therapists and physiotherapists.

The types of injuries the trauma service cares for include flexor and extensor tendon injuries, fractures, nail bed injuries, hand lacerations and fingertip amputations. Theatre sessions are provided for patients needing surgery. Non-surgical and post-surgical care is provided by physiotherapists and occupational therapists in consultation with the medical staff.

As we are a short stay service, we are unable to offer surgery for patients requiring extensive anaesthetic or surgeries requiring more than 2 hours in theatre.

The elective service looks after patients with elective hand conditions including carpal tunnel syndrome, ganglions, and Dupuytren’s disease.
