Short Stay Surgical Unit / Day of Surgery Admission
We cater for patients requiring a short hospital admission for surgical, medical or diagnostic procedures in a large 22 bed ward.
We encourage you to be actively involved in all aspects of your health care and invite you to read the Patient First booklet found throughout Fremantle Hospital.
Post-operative instructions will be explained to you by experienced staff as well as providing you with printed instructions. You’ll be given a 24-hour contact number for Health Direct which you can call if you need advice or assistance.

Consultants can refer patients to the SSSU from outpatient clinics or private rooms by contacting the Patient Flow Unit.

- Patients should have access to a responsible adult who can transport them to and from hospital (preferably by private vehicle)
- We cannot accommodate patients who are aged 18 years or under
Please provide clearly-written post-operative care instructions regarding wound care and dressing.
Please complete a discharge summary before discharge and organise appropriate discharge analgesia and an outpatient appointment. We also give patients verbal and written post-procedure instructions, as well as the 24-hour phone number for Health Direct, so they can access further advice and assistance.
Information for GPs
A copy of the patient’s discharge summary is sent to his or her GP.
